Introduction by  chief executive officer of The Estonian Support Union of the Deafblind Raissa Kesk├╝la

In telling the story of Fini Straubinger, a deaf and blind German woman, Herzog investigates the nature of human thought and communication. Herzog follows Fini Straubinger to numerous events as she visits with other people in the deaf and blind community, discussing their struggle to live in the modern world with their disabilities.

On the surface, this is a documentary about people who are both deaf and blind: some have found refuge in homes; others have been abandoned and robbed of all hope. Scratching beneath this surface reveals a powerful study of communication, a phenomenon that also defines the moment when we truly become human.

The film has been brought to you with the generous help from the Goethe Institute.
